Connect Choir: FAQs

Who Is The Choir For?

We are an exciting, dynamic contemporary pop, rock, funk and soul choir. Connect is for confident singers, ages 21 and over who are passionate about singing and performance.

Our choir is ideal for individuals looking for a sociable and musically challenging outlet. We bring together singers of all levels of musical experience, from amateur to semi professional and we love the challenge of learning and performing more complex vocal harmony.  All of our arrangements are bespoke and written for Connect.

There is no need to be able to read sheet music however.  And your confidence will grow over time with the support of your directors and others around you!

Do you have a strong voice and can you perform on stage with energy, enthusiasm and positivity? Are you committed to learning and memorising material in preparation for concerts, studio recordings and performances abroad?

Looking for a fun and sociable hobby or perhaps you are a more experienced performer. Do you have a strong voice, a keen ear for learning and internalising more complex vocal harmony?

*Minimum age 21. Membership Fee for full time members. Fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Do I have to audition?

No audition necessary! Free trial sessions are available at the beginning of each term and upon application.

Do I have to read music?

Not at all although scored notation will be provided with lyrical content included. All learning styles will be catered for including the provision of audio files for all Connect Choir members which can be a particularly useful tool for those who are better at learning aurally.

How much is the membership fee?

The first trial session is free. Once you join, membership thereafter costs £90 for the full term. This can be paid in full or in two instalments of £45. We accept payment in cash or by BACs transfer. We do not accept

I’m not sure I can sing, can I still join?

Connect is for people who know they can sing and love to do it. We ask that members sing with a clear sense of pitch, rhythm, intonation
and general musicality.

I haven’t sung in a while...

With the right encouragement and singing technique your voice will grow stronger.  You will find that group singing in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment will in time help you to develop confidence and boost self esteem. Joining a choir is the perfect way to work on your aural skills and muscle memory, especially as you will be singing in close sections with others around you. In time your ear for vocal harmony, both simple and complex, will grow and you will find yourself more able to adapt and sing confidently.

How much commitment is involved?

We are looking for members to dedicate their time to each 12 week term as much as possible, particularly in preparation for an important event or choir concert. Practice materials are provided to help members cover repertoire in between absences from rehearsal. Good attendance however, ensures group cohesion, high quality musical performance, high gain in personal confidence and a clear sense of progress and direction. We understand the holiday season can impact attendance. However, in the interests of the group, the Musical Directors retain the right to ask members to step down from an event especially if individuals have missed half of the 12 week term and are unfamiliar with the repertoire.

What materials are available?

Once your membership fee has been submitted you will gain access to the Connect Choir Member’s Area which contains guide tracks, vocal audio files of the arrangements in full, music scores and and tutorials to help and
advise on how to tackle the repertoire and make the most of your voice. All materials are available in PDF and MP4 format for you to download onto your devices.

How long is a choir term?

Each term is 12 weeks with scheduled breaks to allow for public holidays.
